Special 1st Birthday Quilt

I'm working on a quilt for a very special little girl who is turning 1 soon! I got creative and designed the quilt myself after a shopping trip to the fabric store. I had a hard time finding anything as cute as she was, but I hope she will love it! Here is my rough design and layout!

Moda Bake Shop..... Need I say more??? My favorite recipes that are fat and calorie free! Selecting my favorite 'Recipe' for the Love it- Pin it- Win it contest was hard.... It would have been easier to select a quilt I didn't like.... But, I hemmed and hawed and finally decided on THIS absolutely adorable quilt! The Quilt is titled Lucy's Beach {Poetry} Quilt and is stunningly beautiful and whimsical!
The solid white blocks are hand embroidered with a sweet little beach poem that will make you smile year after year!

My Lil is feeling Better!!!

My little Singapura is getting well! She has a healthy appetite and can once again jump onto our bed. Her breathing is doing wonderful and she isn't sneezing and snotting everywhere! We are so truly happy that our baby girl is on the mend!

Attached are pics of her enjoying the summer day! Tired after doing her studies!

Sorry for the delay in posting!

I know it has been a bit since I have posted, and I am sorry! Life has been crazy. My fur baby, Lil, a beautiful 4 year old Singapura is in the hospital. She has pneumonia and Haemolytic Anemia. They think she may have the fatal FIP, but we are praying hard that this isn't the case. She is holding steady right now, but come this weekend, we may have to make some really hard decisions. She has been in the hospital all week and already her vet bill in $2000! Oh my. But, she is my baby and I love her so much. I don't want her to suffer, but if she can get better, I don't want to give up, either!!!

On a quilting note....  I never want to do a Hanui quilt again! LoL! My son's quilt is giving me fits. It is almost quilted, though. I am down to the free motion quilting and the last border now.

14' Gammill Frame!!!

My husband bought me a 14' Gammill frame today from Dover, OH! All I need is to find a great deal on a used Longarm now! Excited to get it set up, even more excited when I can find a machine for it! We couldn't pass the deal up, though, only $400!

Piecing and Borders are DONE!!!

I'm almost sad that this "growing quilt is finally done! I made numerous modifications and style changes, but really like the way the top finished up. Best of all, so does the recipient! Reece seems quite pleased and can't wait to get the finished product.

An area of "surprise" was the final dimensions. As you will guess, it just kept growing as I added more border designs. Because of the size change, my backing fabric no longer fit. But, never fear, that worked out perfectly as I did a decorative pieced back! I was soooo pleased with the results! It looks really beautiful.

I picked out two gorgeous variegated quilting threads this weekend to do the quilting with. I will try to completely finish the quilt within the next two weeks. I plan to do a diamond quilted border, stitch in the ditch and hand quilting in the center panel.

The pics below are of the quilt top spread out on a king size bed!

Finishing the Embroidery

Well, sitting in a hotel room finishing the detail work. This weekend I should finish up the quilting and get this bound. My son is getting antsy, he wants it now!
I plan to do a variety of quilting by machine around the center panel. In the arms, I am going to do a 1/4" stitch-in-the-ditch. I am going to do a diamond pattern in the bottom, with stitch in the ditch along the decorative pieces of the kimono.
I also plan to do a diamond pattern along the borders.
In the center panel, the quilting will highlight key features.
Stay tuned this weekend for more updates!

Here are some pictures of the piecing of the top...

Almost done piecing the Hanui Quilt!

Well, I spent all day today working on Reece's Hanui quilt! I finished piecing the top, except the borders. There will be a total of 4 borders a d the binding. I finished the 1st border and cut 2 more. This is all part of the modifications that I made to the original pattern, tweaking it up a bit! I will upload some pictures of today's progress.

Embroidering on the Plane!

Ok, so I had a long, boring flight from Cleveland to Dallas today. So, I figured this was a great opportunity to work on finishing up the embroidery of the Dragons on my sons Hanui quilt. Helped pass the time! It was funny, though. A guy a seat behind me freaked out over me having scissors and a needle. Really? Really? The scissors are 2" big and my needle is like an inch! Grow up! The flight attendant laughed and told him it was perfectly fine. He watched me the entire flight like I was a terrorist! Lol - this is why I usually fly First Class! (Unfortunately there want 1st on this flight!). Happy quilting all!

I have embroidered all around the dragon in Black and highlighting the red with Embroidery as well.
Filling in the whiskers with silver...

Quilt #3 is 'In Progress'! Reece's 17th Birthday Quilt

Ok.... so, no break for the weary! LOL. As soon as I finished my grandma's quilt, my son decided he wanted one for his birthday. And do kids ever ask for anything easy? NO! He decided that he wanted an Asian Quilt (we are Asian, after all!) and picked a Hanui (Kimono) Quilt from Susan Briscoe's book "Japanese Quilt Inspirations". OUCH! so, we went to JoAnn Fabric and Hobby Lobby and picked out some beautiful Japanese fabric. I also ordered a few special pieces as well to showcase the sleeves. I did piece the sleeves together and cut the decorative center panel. Reece decided on a beautiful dragon fabric, but I was disappointed because it was rather flat. So, brilliant (or not!) me decided to hand embroider the fabric to make it beautiful and a showpiece of the quilt. I am almost done with that.... it has been worked on in Tennessee, Texas, New Mexico and Ohio... and in a plane above and between... But, if it turns out beautiful and my son loves it, that is all that I can ask for!

Here is the quilt design (Above) and the fabric for the sleeves (below)...

This is the fabric for the rest of the quilt (excluding the centerpiece).

Here I finished piecing the sleeves. This is the LEFT Sleeve.

And here is the RIGHT sleeve.

This is the Center Panel - As you can see, it is pretty, but rather flat after the gorgeous fabric of the sleeves...

So, my embroidery began! My next post will be an update on the Embroidery!
